How we review

Every brand guide on this site is built on the same seven questions. Here's what they are, and what we can and can't tell you.

What we look at

  1. Materials. Are the core products made from body-safe, non-porous materials such as silicone, glass or stainless steel? We don't recommend brands that rely on porous or unclear materials.
  2. Design and usability. Are toys comfortable, easy to control and easy to clean? Do they work for different bodies?
  3. Range. Does the brand do one thing brilliantly or cover many categories well?
  4. Value. Is the price justified by build quality, features and longevity compared with alternatives?
  5. Availability. Can you buy it easily from the brand or trusted retailers, and is counterfeiting a risk?
  6. Warranty and support. Does the brand stand behind its products, and are the terms clear?
  7. Privacy. For app-connected toys: what data is collected, and does the brand have a history of problems?

Sources

Our guides combine hands-on use where we have it, brand information, independent reporting, and patterns in verified customer reviews from large retailers. When a statement is based on our own experience, we say so. When it's based on research, we say that too.

What we don't do

  • We don't accept payment for a place in our rankings.
  • We don't let affiliate commissions decide recommendations. Several of the brands we recommend have no affiliate programme with us at all.
  • We don't give medical advice. If you have a health question, talk to a doctor or a qualified sex therapist.

Keeping things current

Every brand page shows a "last updated" date. We review brand guides at least once a year and whenever a brand launches a major new product or changes ownership.
